I often get asked how a teacher might do a project like this with a class of kiddos. Here’s a bit of advice to get you started.
Materials: I use cheap acrylic yarn. The colors fade, but they can last about a year in all weather conditions. I create patterns on a print out of blank chain link before I install the yarn. I am inspired by quilt and textile patterns when I make my designs.
Installation: I roll the yarn into balls about 2 inches across so they'll fit into the spaces of the fence. I also put them into old child-sized socks - that keeps the balls from rolling away if I drop them. Trial and error will teach you techniques too.
